Overview

The Zoning Board of Appeals [ZBA] is made up of 5 members and 2 alternates who are appointed by the Select Board for a term of 3 years.

Purpose and Responsibilities:

The Zoning Board is a quasi-judicial board that has the power to hear and decide on petitions for:

• Appeals from the decisions of the Zoning Enforcement Officer
• Special Permits as allowed under the Protective Bylaw
• Variances from the requirements of the Protective Bylaw

The ZBA holds public hearings on all cases.

Notice of all hearings must be published at least 14 days before the hearing and all owners within 300 feet of the subject property are required to be notified. The entire application, hearing and approval process takes approximately 6+ weeks from the time of application to a signed decision. After a decision is written, signed and filed with the Town Clerk, there is a 20-day appeal period.
